Quick Rome Trip: A City So Beautiful I Keep Coming Back🍕

Colosseum Rome

✨

Rome is one of my favourite cities to visit (I didn’t have the chance to experience living there -yet!), I’ve been there already many times! Honestly, every time I go I usually follow a similar itinerary, so I believe this would be a great guide for anyone visiting Rome (even if you are short on time – or budget!)

I have visited Rome by myself and with a friend and with my family before. My favourite area to stay is Trastevere.

👤 Travel style: With family

🌊 Best for: Architecture & food

🌟Where I stayed

Torripa Resort Trastevere

This time I visited Rome with my mum and my sister. We stayed in Trastevere. Such a beautiful area, lively yet feels safe, and quite easy to access from all touristic places. I highly recommend choosing this area. We chose a hotel (more like an airbnb though) that had 2 rooms and plenty of space. We also had access to a kitchen, however we didn’t use it much. The name of the hotel we stayed at was Torripa Resort. Nice, clean place.

🌟What I did

We started with exploring the Trastevere area, just walking around and taking lots of pictures. Then we continued our tour fully on foot.

First stop: Piazza Navona.

Piazza Navona

It’s a nice little square with 2 beautiful fountains that has sculptures. Highly recommended to check!

Then we moved to Pantheon.

Pantheon

We only saw it from outside, it is nice to see. You can also go inside, for that you need to pay and wait in the line for a while. We preferred moving on. Also bear in mind, you need to have proper clothing to enter, we had summer clothes on, and they were not appropriate to enter.

Next stop: Fontana di Trevi. You need to walk around 10 minutes to get there.

Fontana di Trevi

Even though I saw it a few times already, whenever I see it I am captivated by its beauty. The first time I visited Rome, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I literally said to myself: ‘I will never ever see something more beautiful than this.’ Honestly, that hasn’t been proven wrong so far! It is incredibly beautiful. Of course that’s subjective, check it yourself and don’t complain to me if you saw something more beautiful than that! (Please let me know so that I can visit whatever you prefer over this beauty!) However, it is a bit too annoying to see how overcrowded it is. This time I was surprised to see that they were charging people to enter the area that is closest to the fountain. That was not the case the previous time I visited. Annoying, but makes sense to control the overcrowding issue.

Spanish Steps

Afterwards we walked to the Spanish Steps. Honestly, they don’t impress me much, but my mum was happy to see them as she was familiar with them from some movies.

Colosseum

We left the colosseum for the next day (because we went shopping afterwards, you can definitely fit it to your one-day itinerary). We didn’t go inside, however it is incredibly impressive from outside. I went inside on a previous trip, if you have time (and budget) you can go in for the experience. I was not particularly amazed. Outside is sufficient in my opinion. We had a nice photoshoot break in front of the colosseum. (Pro tip: climb upstairs from the stairs you see next to the metro exit to find the best photo spot)

Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II

This is a beautiful monument, we saw it when we were walking past the colosseum. There is no way you can miss it as it’s quite big. I recommend staring at it for a few minutes (before moving on to a delicious Italian restaurant!).

🌟Where I ate

Tonnarello ⭐

One of my favourite restaurants in Rome. Absolutely delicious authentic Italian food. I eat at this restaurant whenever I visit Rome. We had:

🍕 Main: Rigatoni al pesto (Pasta with pesto sauce. It was very delicious, we all loved it)

🍕Main: Polpette alla vaccinara (Meatballs in oxtail sauce. It was good, but not that special.)

🍕Main: Pizza margherita (It was quite tasty, not that special but nothing to complain about.)

🍕Dessert: Tiramisu (Incredible tiramisu. Best I’ve ever had. Everyone else also loved it but some preferred other places we tried. I prefer not to taste bitterness from coffee and it to be more creamy, it was exactly the way I like it to be.)

Osteria de Fortunata ⭐

I love this restaurant. Delicious Italian food. Fresh pasta & delicious tiramisu. I also visit this restaurant whenever I am in Rome. Their gnocchi is to die for. We shared every dish with my family. Here’s everything I’ve tried here, including on previous visits:

🍕Main: Gnocchi alla sorrentina (Gnocchi with tomato sauce and mozzarella. It was very delicious, we all loved it. It’s a bit heavy though.)

🍕Main: Scaloppina al limone (Meat with lemon sauce. It was interesting, we happily ate it but I don’t think I would order again.)

🍕Main: Tagliolini all’uovo, pesto (Pasta with pesto sauce. It was delicious, we loved it.)

🍕Main: Tagliolini all’uovo, cacio e pepe (Pasta with pepper sauce. It’s special to Rome but we didn’t like it that much.)

🍕Main: Ravioli all’uovo, pomodoro fresco e basilico (Ravioli with tomato sauce. It was ok, nothing special.)

🍕Dessert: Tiramisu (Amazing tiramisu. One of the best I’ve ever had. Everyone else said this was the best tiramisu they had (I prefer Tonnarello’s, but loved this one too.).

I love this place. Delicious food, nice atmosphere. They have different branches throughout the city. There was a lady that was making fresh pasta while we were eating, which was interesting to see.

Two Sizes

Quick tiramisu stop. Various tiramisu flavours. Delicious and practical. I really like this place, it is a very small shop that has a grab & go vibe. You can not eat in the place- it is tiny. They have different flavours, but the best is the classic one. We had:

🍰Dessert 1: Classic Tiramisu (Delicious tiramisu. We loved it. Not the best I’ve ever had, but quite tasty)

🍰Dessert 2: Pistachio Tiramisu (Tasty tiramisu. I really liked it, even though normally I’m kinda obsessed with pistachio, I preferred the classic version.)

It is very central, so it makes a perfect stop while discovering all touristy spots in the city.

Osteria del Corso (ex- Hedera)

We found this restaurant very randomly while walking. It caught our attention because of the cute fairy lights they had as decoration. Only my sister felt hungry enough to have a real dish. She ate Pesto alla Genovese (the pasta type was tonnarello). It was very delicious. We also got fried artichoke to share. It is a typical dish from Rome. It was very delicious. They even thought about ordering again, but then we decided to have some desserts instead. Of course we had tiramisu here as well (it was quite delicious, but not as good as the rest). My mum got the chocolate mousse, but we didn’t like it that much. Its texture was more like ice cream, and it was nothing special.

🌟What I loved the most about Rome

Definitely the architecture! I love just walking around this city. Every corner is prettier than the rest. But I love the cuisine as much as I love the architecture. The food was so good that I didn’t even think about the calories.

🌟Would I recommend Rome?

Absolutely! Worth coming back many times.
